How To - Make the scrapbook pages and attach it to the hinges
We are going to make 6 pages that are open on both ends. One end will attach to the hinge and the other will be open for adding a photo mat.
We will be cutting (6) pieces of black card stock that measure 5 3/4" x 8". The hinge is 5 3/4 so this is where we get our first cut from. If your hinge is different then your measurement will change.
The second piece measures 6 1/2 x 8". We add 3/8" to the top and 3/8" to the bottom so it's a little taller that the first page.
We are using a lighter background so you can see the difference between the 2 paper that we just cut. I will make one page to make sure I have the right measurements before cutting the remaining pages.
Fold the 3/8" flap over the top of the smaller paper. We will glue the flaps and leave the sides open.
I slide the flap around the hinge on the bottom so I can check the flap along the top before anything is glued. I am checking twice so I only have to glue once. When you make a mini album of a different height and length cut 2 pieces for the first page to make sure before you cut all the other papers.
Here is a closer view of the top where the flap folds over the top of the hinge. The smaller paper is level with the top of the hinge so the flap will fold over nicely. I fold to make a little crease on the larger paper and check that it is 3/8". I am always double checking my measurements, looks like we can glue now. One more step before we cut all the other pages.
The hinges that are attached to the mini album are at 90 degrees. By trimming a sliver off the end of the hinge it will be easier to slip the page onto the hinge. The ruler is straight against the mini album and I placed white paper under the hinge so you can see better.
Starting with the last hinge in the mini album glue both sides with wet glue along the top of the hinge and slide the page onto the hinge. Keep the bottom of the page in a straight line with the paper that you used to covered the inside of the mini album. Same goes for the rest of the pages.
When the page is straight go ahead and press down on the hinge and glue and wipe off any glue that is showing.
This is the first mini album that I glued and the pages look great when they are lying on the right but when I move them to the left they are uneven. No matter how I measured twice cut and glued it looks uneven. The book will be fine after all the beautiful patterned paper and embellishments are in.
We have the photo mats cut for the first album and will decorate the edge that you can still see.
We have cut the remaining 5 pages to the same measurements as the first page. All the pages will be glued in and we will cut 6 photo mats for each. This is the easy part of making a mini album. Now we have to decide where the pockets will go, where the flip ups will go and what patterned paper we will use.
This is when I watch you tube videos to get inspiration, it also keeps me company while in my crafty room. I have a tray full of items I would like to use in my mini album. As I am deciding what paper will go where I keep plenty of paper clips on hand to attach everything to the black pages before I actually glue. Once I have decided how page one will look then a glue it down. Page one is considered the inside cover. I sometimes make the inside covers the same. Pages 3 and 4 face each other so the papers I choose are used to bring to two pages together. See you later when we have decided what to do next !
