How To - Create a Mini Album, Making the chipboard cover

11 Easy Steps to "Creating the cover of a Mini Album"

Gather your tools needed to create a mini album.  I use the orange-white Fiskars paper trimmer (from walmart), it has a rotary wheel that easily cuts "Chipboard" used to make the cover.
The blue-green paper trimmer/score board is from We R Memory Keepers.  It does not cut chipboard very well so I use it to score my paper.
I have two scissors, the smaller for fussy cutting small images from the paper.  My tape runner is from Teresa Collins, it's more cost effective than other tape runners because I use it occasionally, I prefer glue.

Aleene's is just that, it's tacky but still gives you a moment to move your paper around and double sided sticky tape (from Amazon) 1/4" and 1/2" is used throughout the album where it will not come in contact with something you put into a pocket because it will stick.
I use a lot of magnets, purchased from Ebay, measures 3/8" x 1/32".  We'll go over paper later.

12 x 12 or 8.5 x 11 Medium weight chipboard is from Amazon (brn, blk & white). I'm using a 12 x 12 because I am making 2 mini albums at the same time so I cut it in half.  Think about how to get the most out of your board before you cut it. Cut (4) pieces for the cover that measure 6" tall and 8.5" wide. 2 pieces are for the for the front and the back covers. Cut (2) pieces for the spine 6"' tall and 2.5" wide.

I always use Tyvek envelopes to "hinge the covers to the spine.  This can be purchased from Staples, Office Depot, etc.  There is fibers in this paper that make it super strong.  If you don't have any maybe putting some strong tape onto paper might work.
Cut (2) pieces that measure 5.75" tall and 1.75" wide.  These 2 pieces hold the spine to the covers.

While you are gluing the covers to the spine, keep the pieces against a straight edge.  The straighter the better.

Lay the front cover on your straight edge the the spine piece to the right of the cover.  You will need a 3/8" space between the pieces.  This works for me, you may see others do it their way.  Lay the piece of Tyvek on top and trace around. It make it easier when you glue the Tyvek down.

I always use Aleene's glue, it forms a tight bond, others use double sided sticky tape.  Tape is super sticky and you won't be able to move it if its not placed correctly, don't I know it !
Keep checking that your pieces are in a straight line when you glue the next piece.

So now the front and back cover are attatched to the spine and there is a 3/8" space under the Tyvek. Everything is nice and straight so now its time to glue the 3 remaining chipboard pieces onto the corresponding pieces.  I am starting with the 2nd spine piece making sure to get plenty of glue along the edges.

Use lots pressure and make sure there is plenty of glue in the corners.  Glue the 2nd pieces of the covers on top of the first.

So now the 4 cover pieces are glued together, the 2 spine pieces are too with a little Tyvek in between.  Everything is nice and straight and the next step will be adding the paper to the outside of the mini album then paper onto the spine. Many people do it their way and I will be showing you my way.
